With steadily growing awareness about geospatial technology and keen efforts by nodal agencies to promote and grow the technology, Malaysia is an extremely fertile ground for geospatial industry. Held for the first time in 2006 as Map Malaysia, the conference is a platform for the Malaysian geo-informatics community to realise, recognise, and reveal the stages of dissemination of geospatial information in the country. Map Malaysia offers a unique value proposition by reaching out to the wide-ranging industry stakeholders, i.e: various sectors of Government departments, Research Institutes, Private organizations, Academic Institutions, civil societies and end users.

Over the years, the scope of geographical information science has expanded from only mapping/geomatics and GIS into more integrated segments such as information technology, engineering, design, imaging and so on. The term ‘geospatial’ is now regularly being used to provide a complete definition to this ever growing industry and its associated disciplines. In line with the company rebranding in August 2011, Map Malaysia too, will now follow the brand name of Malaysia Geospatial Forum.

Malaysia Geospatial Forum 2012, the 4th National Conference on Geographical Information Technology and Applications, will be held in The Historical City of Melaka on 6-7 March 2012.
